What applies in the case of mass layoffs?

The Dismissal Protection Act stipulates that in the case of mass dismissals, the employer must not only inform the works council in good time, but also the employment agency (so-called mass dismissal notification). If the employer fails to make the required notifications, the dismissals are invalid. What is covered by the term mass dismissal is regulated in Section 17 (1) KSchG.
